Why is Lifeline an invaluable service?

Home / News and Events / Lifeline Blog / Why is Lifeline an invaluable service?

Because our phone line offers human connection to someone experiencing distress 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Traditionally, connection is a deep bond that is formed between people when they feel seen and valued. It’s during this connection people exchange positive energy with one another and build trust.
As a social species, humans are wired to connect, and according to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, besides food, water, and safety, love and belonging are the most important needs we must fulfill.
This includes our desire for interpersonal relationships, intimacy, to connect with others, and to be integrated into a group. When these needs are met, our overall well-being improves, and we live a more fulfilled life.

But not everyone has someone they feel safe to talk to or have a support network of family and friends, this is one of the reasons Lifeline’s popularity and services have grown so significantly over the last few years, with the increase in natural disasters, Covid 19 lockdowns and the current rising interest rates, and strain on relationships.

Lifeline’s 13 11 14 phone line is for anyone who is feeling distressed or in crisis. Our volunteers are expertly trained to answer the calls of those seeking help. Our Crisis Supporters don’t give advice, but they listen and attend to the needs of the caller. Every phone call is confidential, with no judgement and literally has saved thousands of lives over years in suicide prevention.

The power of this connection between a help seeker and a Crisis Supporter is making a huge difference in our country.

Please remember Lifeline is always here for you if you want to speak to someone. You can reach Lifeline via our phone service on 13 11 14 or via our online text service 0477 13 11 14 or chat service
