Phone Crisis Supporter

As a volunteer Phone Crisis Supporter at Lifeline North Coast, you’ll be a vital connection for people who are feeling overwhelmed, distressed, or even at risk of suicide. Through active listening, empathy, and non-judgement, you can provide hope and safety in someone’s darkest hour.

Our Phone Crisis Supporters answer calls to Lifeline’s national 13 11 14 service, offering immediate and short-term emotional support. Every call is a chance to change — or even save — a life.

You’ll receive comprehensive training through the Crisis Supporter Workplace Training, delivered locally by Lifeline North Coast on behalf of Lifeline Australia RTO 88036. Over 12 months, you’ll complete a combination of online and in-person learning, student placement, and internship, covering:

  • Suicide risk and safety planning
  • Crisis de-escalation and support techniques
  • Client-centred approaches to care

On completion, you’ll receive a nationally recognised CHCSS00113 Crisis Support Skill Set qualification, including three key units in crisis response and support.

  • To volunteer as a Phone Crisis Supporter, you must:
  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be an Australian/New Zealand citizen or hold an eligible visa
  • Complete a Police Check and Working with Children Check
  • Commit to a minimum of 4 hours per fortnight
  • Contribute toward subsidised training costs

The experience is deeply meaningful. You’ll join a caring, supportive team and develop valuable skills in communication, resilience, and emotional intelligence.

Phone Crisis Supporters are central to Lifeline’s ability to be there for people 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Your voice, your presence, your compassion — they can be the lifeline someone is reaching for.

If you’re ready to help us make sure no one faces their darkest moments alone, apply today.
